William (always called Henry) was a harness maker and shortly after marrying
Emily moved to Arizona to try his trade there. In 1910 the family went to
Los Angeles where he set up shop and attempted to get into Auto repair.
The family moved back to AZ and in 1916 on the death of John Jenkins (Emily's
father) they returned to Allendale, MI where Henry farmed in the summer and
would move to Grandville in the winter so that Anna and Alma could go to
Grandville High School, while Henry did shoe Repair. He had a hard life.
